It is also used as a solid catalyst to synthesize fatty acids from alcohols, amines, and glycerol. N-Ethylbutylamine can be synthesized by reacting carbon disulfide with anhydrous ammonia gas, followed by hydrolysis of the resulting ethylamine sulfate salt. This process produces hydrogen sulfide gas as a byproduct. The chemical has been shown to have receptor binding properties and intermolecular hydrogen bonding capabilities, both of which are important features in drug discovery research.
