It is used as a solvent and plasticizer and is also found in food products. 1,10-Undecadiene can be produced by the polymerization of 1,9-decadiene with ethylene oxide. This reaction produces copolymers that are used for making polycarbonates and fatty acids. The amide groups in the molecule can be cleaved by heating at high temperatures. This process will produce a mixture of unsaturated amides and other compounds including acetal groups and chlorine.
