Descrizione:3-(Methoxymethoxy)benzaldehyde (3-MMBA) is an enantioselective β-lactam antibiotic. The 3-MMBA molecule has been synthesized in a high yielding, asymmetric synthesis and was found to be active against Gram-positive bacteria. This molecule displays a potent activity against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, which is a major cause of hospital acquired infections. 3-MMBA binds to the β-lactamase enzyme and inhibits its activity, preventing the hydrolysis of the β-lactam ring. This inhibition prevents bacterial growth and leads to cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis.
