Rhodamine 700 is a molecule that has a phase transition temperature of about -10°C. It is permeable to cell membranes and can be used as a probe for measuring membrane potentials. Rhodamine 700 can be used as an optical absorber and can be excited by light in the ultraviolet region (300-400 nm).
