Descrizione

2'-Deoxy-2'-fluoro-5-methyluridine (2DFMU) is an analog of the natural nucleoside cytidine. It inhibits cellular DNA replication by binding to cytidine deaminase, which is a cytosolic enzyme that converts 2DFMU to uracil. The uptake of 2DFMU is rapid and can be detected in most cells within 30 minutes. This drug has been shown to have high reactivity with sulfur trifluoride and hydroxyl groups, but not with trifluoroacetic acid. The conformational properties of 2DFMU make it useful for studying dna duplex formation and its reactions with fluorine. 2DFMU also has potential as a marker for oxidative DNA damage in cells.
