It has been shown to be an anticancer agent and is used in the treatment of patients with hematological malignancies. 3',5'-Diamino-3',5'-dideoxy-5'-Fmoc-thymidine hydrochloride is synthesized from 5'-deoxyuridine monophosphate and amidites, which are modified phosphoramidites. This compound can be used as a building block for DNA synthesis by incorporating into a growing chain, or as an activator for DNA polymerases. 3',5'-Diamino-3',5'-dideoxy-5'-Fmoc-thymidine hydrochloride has been shown to induce apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in cancer cells.
