Myristoyl coenzyme A is a potential drug that inhibits the binding of human pathogens to protein. It also has been shown to have potential as an inhibitor for reactions involving myristoylation, which is a process where proteins are modified with myristic acid. Myristoyl coenzyme A was synthesized using titration calorimetry and in vitro assays. The compound has been shown to have the ability to inhibit polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and reduce the growth of bacteria in vitro. Myristoyl coenzyme A may be useful in treating metabolic disorders and infectious diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.
