Asiaticoside is a natural compound that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. It also has an effect on energy metabolism, as well as on the immune system. Asiaticoside is found in the roots of asiatic pennywort (Asiaticoside), which are used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat bowel disease and to improve brain function. Studies have shown that Asiaticoside inhibits the growth of cancer cells by binding to response elements and inhibiting the expression of growth factor-β1. These effects may be due to its ability to inhibit oxidative injury, which is caused by reactive oxygen species like hydrogen peroxide or lipid peroxides. The analytical method for determining Asiaticoside content is high performance liquid chromatography. A study was done on a myeloma cell line, which showed increased cell death when exposed to Asiaticoside.
