• Descrizione: N,N-Dimethyl 4-chlorobenzamide is a compound that can be prepared by the reaction of 4-chlorobenzoyl chloride and dimethylamine. It has been shown to yield two products, depending on the conditions used during the reaction. The product obtained with boron trifluoride etherate as the catalyst is analogous to p-phenetidine and has a shift in its UV spectrum at 290 nm. This compound reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to form an intermediate that undergoes a rearrangement step to give a carbonyl compound. This reaction provides information about the substituent effects on the benzene ring. N,N-Dimethyl 4-chlorobenzamide does not react with carbon dioxide or water, but reacts readily with hydrogen chloride and hydrogen bromide in aqueous solution. Nonetheless, it does not undergo substitution reactions at either position of the chlorine atom.
