It is used as an uptake inhibitor in the treatment of seizures, and has been shown to be effective in the treatment of epilepsy. The drug has been shown to block the reuptake of neurotransmitters, such as gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and tiagabine hydrochloride, by binding to the transporter type responsible for their uptake. 4-Chlorophenylhydrazine sulfate has also been shown to be effective against depression and anxiety disorders.
