It has been shown to be bactericidal against Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhimurium, but not against Escherichia coli. 4-Methoxy-3-methylphenol can be synthesized by hydrolysis of 3,4-dimethoxyphenol with sodium hydroxide solution.
