Oxadiargyl is a herbicide that inhibits the synthesis of chlorophyll and other plant pigments. It is used to control weeds, especially in rice fields. The analysis of oxadiargyl in natural samples is performed by extracting the sample with dichloromethane or acetone, adding the extract to an acidic reaction solution, and measuring the absorbance at 660 nm. The herbicide may be applied as a mixture with other herbicides for synergistic effects. Oxadiargyl is a strong light absorber and may cause skin damage if exposed to sunlight. This chemical has been shown to inhibit plant metabolism by reacting with phenolic acids.
