4-(2-Hydroxy-ethoxy)-3-methoxybenzaldehyde (HMB) is a molecule that is commercially available as a white solid. It can be used in the production of polymers and resins, where it is used as a monomer in the polymerization process. HMB has been shown to form orthogonal polymers with other molecules. The yields for this synthesis are dependent on the solvent and reaction conditions. HMB has been shown to be stable under almost all conditions, with the exception of chlorides or benzohydrazide. This molecule also has an optimal molecular weight of 300 g/mol.
