Honyucitrin is a coumarin and flavone that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity. It is found in the bark of Grandis, a tree native to Southeast Asia. Honyucitrin is an acetone extract of the bark which contains coumarins and acridone alkaloids. Coumarins are aromatic compounds with a wide range of biological activities including antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antimalarial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer. Acridones are also found in this extract and have been shown to inhibit bacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase.
