Dimethyl (2-Oxo-3-phenoxypropyl)phosphonate is a surfactant that can be used as an experimental model for nanoparticles. It is an electron donor and a strong reducing agent, which can be used to form particles with light exposure. The synthesis of this compound requires the reaction of ganoderma lucidum, which is a natural polysaccharide and an important component in traditional Chinese medicine. The synthesis of this compound may involve two steps: the first step is the esterification of 2-hydroxypropyl alcohol with phenol; the second step is the oxidation of phosphorous acid to produce dimethyl (2-oxo-3-phenoxypropyl)phosphonate. Dimethyl (2-Oxo-3-phenoxypropyl)phosphonate has been shown to have semiconductor properties, which are usually seen in metal oxides.
