Descrizione:o-Hydroxyethyl metronidazole is an antibiotic that is used to treat infections caused by bacteria. It is a prodrug that undergoes hydrolysis in vivo to form the active compound, metronidazole. Metronidazole binds to bacterial DNA and inhibits the synthesis of proteins, leading to death of the cell. o-Hydroxyethyl metronidazole can be used for the treatment of anaerobic infections and infections caused by aerobic bacteria. The drug has been shown to be effective in treating infections of the colon, but not those of the urinary tract or respiratory tract.
