The hydrated form of this compound is an analytical reagent that can be used to calibrate the pH of solutions. Neodymium(III) hydroxide forms complexes with alizarin-3-methyliminodiacetic acid (ALZMIDA). These complexes have been shown to enhance the formation of surfactant and reaction products. This ligand has also been studied as a means to equilibrate metal ions in solution.
