It has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of phosphotungstic acid hydrolase and as such can be used in the inhibition of bacterial growth. Cis-epoxysuccinic acid has also been shown to inhibit surface methodology, which may lead to the development of new antibiotics. The mechanism studies showed that cis-epoxysuccinic acid inhibits hamster v79 cells through a reaction solution involving camp levels and surface methodology.
