It is a colorless, water-soluble liquid. Hexafluorosilicic acid reacts with sodium carbonate to form silica particles and hydrogen fluoride. This chemical can be used to treat wastewater by removing silicon and potassium ions from the water. Hexafluorosilicic acid has an acidic pH and will emit light when heated or exposed to ultraviolet radiation.
