4-[(1R)-1,2,2-Trimethylcyclopentyl]benzaldehyde is an upcoming chemopreventive agent that has been shown to inhibit prostate cancer. This compound is isolated from a variety of sources including medicinal plants and steroids. It has been shown to have chemopreventive properties against prostate cancer by blocking the production of androgens. The mechanism of action may be related to its ability to inhibit the activity of enzymes involved in androgen synthesis, such as 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 5 (17β-HSD5) and 3-alpha hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3α-HSD). 4-[(1R)-1,2,2-Trimethylcyclopentyl]benzaldehyde also inhibits the growth of prostate cancer cells by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis. This compound also possesses antioxidant properties due to its phenolic moiety.
