Descrizione:Varenicline is a ligand that binds to the olivocerebellar nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. It has been shown to have clinical efficacy in treating nicotine addiction and has been evaluated in clinical studies using healthy volunteers. Varenicline was found to be effective in reducing the reinforcing effects of nicotine, as well as the smoking cessation rates. This drug also inhibits binding of acetylcholine to nicotinic receptors (nicotinic antagonists), which reduces the release of dopamine. This drug is used for the treatment of tobacco dependence, post-traumatic stress disorder, and as an adjunct in major depressive disorder.
