It can be used as a receptor α antagonist and has been shown to inhibit proliferation of human breast cancer cells in vitro. 3-Bromo-4-iodoanisole binds to the proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) and blocks its interaction with ligand. The compound also inhibits the production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which is a protein that stimulates blood vessel formation.
