Edifenphos is a drug that is used to treat cancer. Edifenphos is a mitochondrial membrane potential inhibitor, which inhibits the transport of drugs across the cell membrane by binding to drug transporters. This makes edifenphos an effective treatment for methadone-resistant mutant cells. Edifenphos has been shown in animal studies to be toxic at high doses and can lead to death. The toxicity of edifenphos may be due to its ability to inhibit biological processes like protein synthesis, DNA replication, and mitochondrial function.
