Descrizione:Benzenebutanal is a volatile compound that is used as an industrial solvent and a raw material for the production of synthetic substances. The odorant receptor OR2A5, which binds to benzenebutanal, has been found in human olfactory epithelium. Benzenebutanal is also used in the synthesis of formyl-containing compounds such as formaldehyde and acetaldehyde, which are potent aldehydes. Benzenebutanal can be produced by irradiating benzene with ultraviolet light or by reacting it with phosphite. It can also be synthesized by reacting formyl chloride with chloroethanes such as ethylene dichloride and propylene dichloride. Benzenebutanal is most commonly used as a solvent for non-polar solvents such as hexane, heptane, pentane, and petroleum ether because of its low surface tension.
