Kuwanon E is a cox-2 inhibitory that inhibits the production of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Kuwanon E is extracted from the bark of the neocyclomorusin tree, which grows in Cameroon. The extract contains prenylflavones, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and a variety of other chemical compounds. It also has hypoglycemic effects and can be used to treat oral pathogens. Kuwanon E blocks the initiation of apoptosis by inhibiting fatty acid synthase and inhibiting TNF-α signaling pathways. This agent also has an anti-inflammatory effect on THP-1 cells by preventing oxidative stress and activation of NFκB.
