Methyl 6-bromo-1H-indole-3-carboxylate is a small molecule that is isolated from the marine sponge Smenospongia purpurea and has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against two Gram-positive bacteria, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Epidermidis. The structure of methyl 6-bromo-1H-indole-3-carboxylate consists of an aromatic ring with a carboxylic acid group on one side and a bromine atom on the other side. This molecule may be synthesized by condensing 6-bromoindole with ethyl acetate in the presence of acid.
