Descrizione:5-(2,5-Dimethylphenoxy)pentanoic acid is a fatty acid that has been shown to have strong anti-inflammatory effects in infants. This drug is a lipoprotein transport inhibitor and its prodrug form has been shown to reduce the serum cholesterol level in adults with hypercholesterolemia. 5-(2,5-Dimethylphenoxy)pentanoic acid blocks the biosynthesis of cholesterol by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which is involved in the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate. The drug also inhibits the synthesis of endogenous phospholipids, which are necessary for the formation of cellular membranes. 5-(2,5-Dimethylphenoxy)pentanoic acid is not well absorbed orally and has low oral bioavailability due to its high affinity for lipoproteins.
