Dilmapimod is an inhibitor of the enzyme phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K) that is involved in the signaling pathway that leads to the release of proinflammatory cytokines. It has been shown to inhibit the production of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, leukemia inhibitory factor, and interleukin-6, a potent inflammatory mediator. This drug also inhibits the proliferation of pluripotent cells and induces differentiation into cells with a more limited potential. Dilmapimod has been used as a diagnostic tool for identifying patients with autoimmune diseases who have increased levels of high sensitivity c-reactive protein. The drug inhibits tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα), which plays a role in chronic inflammation and cancer progression.
