Monodesmethylchlorpheniramine is an antihistamine and anticholinergic drug. It is used to relieve symptoms of the common cold, hay fever, allergies, or other upper respiratory allergies. Monodesmethylchlorpheniramine is metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes to form the metabolites hydroxychlorpheniramine, desmethoxychlorpheniramine, chlorpheniramine-N-oxide, and monohydroxychlorpheniramine. These metabolites are excreted in urine as conjugates with glucuronic acid and sulfate ions. The sample preparation method involves a liquid chromatography analysis that separates the components of a sample based on their different physical properties. This chromatographic method can be used to analyze amines such as chlorpheniramine.
