Descrizione

Voleneol is an anti-tumor agent that belongs to the class of monocyclic compounds. It has been shown to have anti-tumor activity against melanoma cells in a model of human skin cancer, as well as other tumor cell lines. Voleneol has been synthesized from eudesmane and thymol, which are natural products found in plants. The compound has also been shown to inhibit angiogenesis by binding to spathulenol, an intermediate in the synthesis of benzofurans. Voleneol is chiral and can exist in two forms: the (R) form and the (S) form. It is not active on its own, but must be activated with hydrogen bond donors such as thymol or benzofuran to form its active form.
