Pyrilamine is a pyridine derivative that is used as an antihistamine. It is orally active and has a dose-dependent effect. Pyrilamine has been shown to inhibit the release of histamine from mast cells and to have an anaphylactic effect in animals. It also inhibits the activity of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) by inhibiting membrane lipid synthesis and regulating PMN chemotaxis.
