Crassifolioside is a naturally occurring sesquiterpene lactone that has antioxidant properties and can scavenge radicals. Crassifolioside has been shown to possess anion radical scavenging activities as well as radical scavenging activities in various assays, such as the DPPH assay and ABTS assay. Crassifolioside also inhibits the production of malondialdehyde, which is a marker for lipid peroxidation, when it reacts with hydrogen peroxide. The UV-absorbing properties and chromatographic analysis of crassifolioside provide evidence for its presence in the plant Verbascum thapsus.
Crassifolioside is present in the leaves of Verbascum thapsus, where it can be extracted using alcohol. This natural product can be used to prepare verbascoside, which is a potent antioxidant that has been shown to have anion radical scavenging activities and radical scavenging
