7-Deazaadenosine is an equilibrative nucleoside that has been used as a substrate for the study of biological properties. It is not active against any known bacterial strains or fungi, but it has shown anti-inflammatory activity when tested in rats. 7-Deazaadenosine is found naturally in the tubercidin molecule, which is a natural compound found in soil and water. This nucleotide binds to the ribose ring of RNA and inhibits the polymerase chain reaction by modifying RNA.
