MAC13243 is an isothiouronium salt that inhibits lipid biosynthesis and is used as a cavity agent. It inhibits the uptake of lipids by inhibiting the activity of acyl chain-specific enzymes that are involved in lipid metabolism. MAC13243 binds to the active site of these enzymes, which prevents the transfer of acyl chains from coenzyme A to fatty acids. This binding also inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting cellular metabolism and protein synthesis. MAC13243 has antimicrobial properties, but it is not effective against all bacterial strains.
