Anhydropisatin is a natural compound that is found in plants. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on human colorectal adenocarcinoma cells, as well as other types of cancer cells. Anhydropisatin induces cell death by altering the mitochondrial membrane potential and inhibiting protein synthesis. It also inhibits the biosynthesis of isoflavonoids, which are phytoalexins that protect plants against pathogens. Anhydropisatin also has inhibitory effects on messenger RNA (mRNA) levels and galacturonic acid production in chickpea.
