Paeonolide is a natural compound found in the Chinese herb Fructus Ligustri. It has been shown to have antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Paeonolide has also been shown to inhibit hepatitis C virus replication and may be useful in the treatment of chronic viral hepatitis. It has been shown that pachymic acid, which is a component of Paeonolide, can inhibit the synthesis of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which plays an important role in the regulation of neurotransmitter release. Paeonolide also has synergistic effects with other antimicrobial agents such as boron nitride and plasma mass spectrometry.
