2-Ethoxy-3-isopropylpyrazine is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It also has antiangiogenic effects and can inhibit the growth of tumor cells in mice. 2-Ethoxy-3-isopropylpyrazine has been shown to be toxic to some species of aphids, but not others. The toxicity depends on the concentration of the chemical and the type of aphid species. This compound is metabolized by rats into two metabolites: 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid, which is an inhibitor of protein synthesis in bacteria, and 2-(2'-ethoxyphenyl)-4H-[1]benzopyranone (EPBP), which inhibits acetylcholinesterase and may cause neurotoxicity.
