Tanshindiol B is the primary metabolite of tanshinone IIA. It has been isolated from the roots of Salvia miltiorrhiza, a plant native to China. Tanshindiol B has been used as an analytical standard for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and as a reference material for bioactive screening and quality control. It has also been used in research and development of natural products. Tanshindiol B is a member of the group of phytochemicals known as dithiocarbamates, which are compounds with two sulfur atoms that are attached to adjacent carbon atoms on a central carbon backbone. Tanshindiol B is structurally similar to dithiocarbamate-based fungicides such as mancozeb, thiram, and zineb.
