Latisxanthone C (LXC) is a natural product isolated from the lichen Xanthoria parietina. It has been shown to have antiviral, anticancer and antimalarial activities. The inhibitory effect of LXC on cancer cells is due to its ability to induce activation of antigen-presenting cells and subsequent production of cytokines that activate T lymphocytes. The antiviral activity of LXC is due to its ability to inhibit viral synthesis by inhibiting viral RNA replication, as well as other mechanisms.
