Descrizione

Pulegone is a naturally occurring monoterpene with a variety of pharmacological properties. It inhibits the proliferation of animal cells, including erythroid cells. Pulegone has also been shown to have an acidic nature and can be used as a medicine in animals. Pulegone has been found to cause lethargy and hypertrophy in animal studies, which may be due to its ability to induce vacuolization. The carcinogenic potential of pulegone was studied by exposing rat liver cells to pulegone vapors for up to 24 hours per day, 5 days per week for up to 4 months. Results showed that pulegone caused hepatocyte tumor development in rats at all doses tested, with the exception of the lowest dose group (0.5 mg/L). This effect was observed only at concentrations higher than those found in humans following inhalation exposure.
