Descrizione

Perillaldehyde is a colorless liquid that has a strong, pungent odor. It is used as an antifungal agent in postharvest applications to control fungi and insects on fruits and nuts. Perillaldehyde has shown efficacy against the fungal pathogens Alternaria and Cladosporium. The compound also exhibits anti-mosquito activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of lactic acid in mosquito larvae. Perillaldehyde has been shown to inhibit the growth of Candida albicans, Coccidioides immitis, Cryptococcus neoformans, Histoplasma capsulatum, Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, Rhizopus stolonifer, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Toxoplasma gondii, and Aspergillus niger in cell culture studies.
