Roemerine is a trifluoroacetic acid-soluble, bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid that has been identified as the major active component in the roots of Angelica Dahurica. It has been shown to have antihypertensive activity in vitro and surface methodology, and inhibits the growth of prostate cancer cells. This compound also contains a bicyclic structure with a hydroxyl group at C-2, which is highly unusual for alkaloids. Roemerine can be detected using LC-MS/MS methods. The proposed structure was confirmed by structural analysis of the isolated compound and comparison with roemerine standards.
