Drimiopsin D is a natural product that is isolated from the plant Drimia maritima. It has both analytical and bioactive properties, with the latter being due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis in bacteria. This compound is a secondary metabolite that was first isolated by HPLC standards for quality control purposes. It can be used as a reference material for screening activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex. Drimiopsin D has been shown to have an antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pyogenes, Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium.
