It has been used for the production of biotin-tagged antibodies, which are used in diagnostic procedures. N-Propargylbiotinamide can be used to analyze gene expression patterns and protein profiles of cells in culture. The molecule can be conjugated with acid to produce a fluorescent probe that can be detected using fluorescence microscopy. This product does not work well for low expression genes or if the cells are difficult to permeabilize due to the presence of sugar residues or lysine residues on the cell surface.
