Its mechanism of action involves binding to DNA and inhibiting the synthesis of RNA and DNA, thereby interfering with cell division. The drug also binds to erythrocytes, leading to methemoglobinemia. This medication can cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, headache, dizziness, confusion, insomnia, anxiety and depression.
