<p>Nimodipine is a medication that belongs to the group of calcium channel blockers. It is used as a treatment for cerebral vasospasm, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and hypertensive emergencies. Nimodipine inhibits calcium influx into cells by blocking voltage-sensitive L-type calcium channels in smooth muscle cells. This medication has been shown to be effective when used with other drugs in the treatment of vasospasm or after aneurysm surgery. Nimodipine has also been shown to increase blood flow and improve brain function in patients with head injuries. The effects of nimodipine on cerebral blood flow have been demonstrated using whole-cell recordings from brain slices.</p>
