Yttrium(III) iodide, is used as a starting material for YBCO superconducting materials in a lower temperature preparation. Applied in the solid-state synthesis of a new compound, Y21I18C14B7, which is the first example of a rare earth metal halide with interstitial halogen atoms with misfit characteristics. This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand.
