Phosphorous acid, tri-2-propen-1-yl ester (PTPA) is an amphoteric surfactant that is used as a catalyst in the syntheses of fatty acids, inorganic acids, and carbonyl compounds. PTPA is soluble in water and reacts with sodium carbonate to form a solid catalyst. PTPA has been shown to be stable at high temperatures, which makes it suitable for use as a catalyst in organic reactions. It also has high resistance to water permeability and can be used as a stabilizer for reaction solutions. This compound reacts with fatty acids or allyl carbonates to produce carboxylic acid derivatives.
