Description:

5-Chloroisothiazol-3-ol is a coordination compound that has been shown to have antibacterial activity. The compound is a ligand for metal ions and can be used as an analog of chloro, which is also a coordinating ligand. 5-Chloroisothiazol-3-ol has been shown to have antimicrobial activity in the presence of chlorine gas and high concentrations of chloride ions. It has also been shown to inhibit the growth of Gram-negative bacteria at low concentrations, with extrapolated MIC values for Escherichia coli of 0.4 mM and for Staphylococcus aureus at 1 mM. The magnetic properties of this compound are also noteworthy, as it was found to be strongly paramagnetic with an observed magnetic moment of 2.8 μB per mole.
