Ganoderenic acid C (GDC) is a nucleobase found in ganoderma lucidum. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of certain types of cancer cells and cell cultures. GDC binds to enzymes that are involved in the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and protein, inhibiting their activity. GDC has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting prostaglandin production. Clinical trials have shown that GDC can cause improvement in some cases of cancer; however, the mechanism for this effect is not yet clear.
